Economic Development Officer

Position: Economic Development Officer
Location: Grand Council Treaty #3, Kenora, Ontario
Start Date: April 1, 2010 for 1 year term
Salary: $50,000 per year
Closing Date: February 26, 2010

Grand Council Treaty# 3 offers an exceptional opportunity for a results-oriented leader with significant experience to join a dynamic and vibrant advocacy team and to work closely with the Grand Council and member First Nations. The GCT#3 wishes to recruit and hire an individual with appropriate training and education, expertise, and technical skills to, for instance, support capacity development initiatives, submit funding applications, review and research business ventures, and develop partnerships and business alliances. The Economic Development Officer to GCT#3 is an individual with the vision, energy, and perseverance and shall be responsible for the development, retention, implementation, and administration of these economic operations – locally and regionally. This position will also include working with associated staff in negotiations with governments and industry as well as reporting to the Executive Committee in this and associated areas.

Qualifications:

• University degree in commerce/business admin or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience in Business Venture Capitalization
• Must be proactive, self-motivated, and provide leadership
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with Treaty #3 Chiefs and staff, government officials, industry, local businesses, CEDO’s, First Nation Communities as well as the general public
• Commitment to liaison with Economic Development Officers from our First Nations Communities to build pragmatic partnerships
• Creativity, team work, and ability to work with community
• Ability to interpret and prepare business and grant applications
• Familiarity with business and marketing, promotion and development
• Knowledge and proficiency in the Anishinaabe language, traditions and culture a definite asset
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel

Salary will depend on experience, education, and training relating to the position of Economic Development Officer.
