Booshoo! Welcome to the Grand Council Treaty #3 Health Department

We are a busy team who work closely with the Treaty #3 leadership, Social Sustainability Chiefs Committee and the Grand Council Treaty #3 Health Council. Our team consists of: Harmony Rice, Health Policy Analyst, Deanna Major and Karen Skead. We work on the federal, provincial and Grand Council Treaty #3 Health Council files for Treaty #3. Here are a few updates of our most recent initiatives:

We are about to launch a Grand Council Treaty #3 Health Role Model Initiative honoring the accomplishments of Treaty 3 First Nations Health Role Models. Four Aboriginal Role Models from each region of Treaty # 3 Territory were selected for having already accomplished their dreams, careers including one young lady who is currently still attending college pursuing her goal in a health field she has chosen. It is anticipated that throughout 2011-2012 year, role models with schedules permitting will attend school functions, forums, and conferences including aboriginal gatherings to share their stories with other Aboriginal youth. For Year 2011-2012 Grand Council Treaty #3 Health Role Models are:

  • Nicole Arch a student from Onigaming First Nation who graduated from a Pharmacy Technician Program; Nicole is currently enrolled in a Dental Assistant Program in Winnipeg.
  • Pharmacist Edwin Bruyere hails from Couchiching First Nation who excelled and obtained his degree from University of Manitoba. Edwin has opened his own pharmacy in his home community Couchiching.
  • M.D. Shannon Wesley ‘s community is Eagle Lake better known as Migisi Shagaigan; Dr. Wesley currently resides in Thunder Bay where her clinic/practice is based. This young doctor schedules her time at her Thunder Bay clinic and also commits to flying to isolated remote northern communities.
